Reasonable Inquiry collects as little personal information as necessary for its reporting.

If you subscribe to Reasonable Inquiry or create a member account, Ghost may store information you provide, such as your email address and, if supplied, your name.

That information is used to deliver publications, manage subscriptions, and operate the site. It is not sold to advertisers.

Site analytics

Reasonable Inquiry uses Ghost’s built-in first-party analytics to understand how readers use the site. Ghost says these analytics are cookie-free and do not use persistent browser storage to identify visitors across sessions, browsers, or devices. For logged-in members, Ghost may associate reading activity with a member account for publication analytics.

Reasonable Inquiry does not currently use Google Analytics or other third-party behavioral advertising trackers.

Email

Messages sent to Reasonable Inquiry may be retained as necessary for reporting, correspondence, records management, or other legitimate operational purposes.

Ordinary email should not be considered a confidential communications channel. For sensitive information, readers are encouraged to use the Signal contact information provided on the Contact page.

Sources and confidential information

Information provided by sources may be retained when necessary for reporting and verification. Reasonable Inquiry will take reasonable steps to protect confidential source information and will not publish identifying information promised confidentiality except with the source’s consent or where legally required.

Third-party services

Reasonable Inquiry currently uses Ghost for website hosting and publishing and Fastmail for email. Those services process information according to their own privacy and security practices.

Changes

This policy may be updated as Reasonable Inquiry adds or changes services, analytics, membership features, payment systems, or other tools.
